Giving Back Through the Homes for Heroes Program in Wisconsin

As a retired Air Force veteran and a former volunteer firefighter, serving others has always been part of who I am. It’s not just a career or a phase—it’s a calling. That’s why the Homes for Heroes program in Wisconsin means so much to me. It’s a way I can continue to give back to those who dedicate their lives to serving our communities and our country.

Images has 4 different pictures. In the images a nurse from Madison, Wisconsin shows the saving she had while purchasing her home in Madison. The other image shows discounts a firefighter received when purchasing his home in Madison, Wisconsin. Another shows teacher savings in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. The last picture shows police savings on their home purchase in Madison, WI

Since joining the program, I’ve had the privilege of helping over 200 heroes in our local area save more than $1.25 million on their home journeys. These aren’t just numbers—they’re real families, real people, and real stories of finding a place to call home.

What Is the Homes for Heroes Program in Wisconsin?

The Homes for Heroes program in Wisconsin is a nationwide initiative designed to give back to the heroes among us—military service members, law enforcement officers, firefighters, medical professionals, and teachers. Since its inception, it has helped over 71,000 heroes save a staggering $141 million.

Locally, I’ve seen its impact firsthand. Helping a fellow veteran buy their first home, assisting a firefighter’s family in upgrading to a bigger space, or supporting a teacher in finding their dream home—it’s about more than savings. It’s about making a difference in people’s lives.

How Does It Work?

If you’re a hero, here’s how the program helps:

  • Savings Where It Matters Most: On average, our heroes save $3,500 on their home purchase, sale, or refinancing. This includes discounted realtor fees, reduced mortgage costs, home inspection discounts, and various other exclusive benefits.

  • A Stress-Free Experience: As a Homes for Heroes affiliate, I guide you through every step of the process, making it as smooth and straightforward as possible.

  • Local Expertise, Personalized Care: With my military background and deep roots in the Madison and Dane County areas, I understand the unique needs of heroes and how to navigate the local market.

Why This Matters to Me

One of my favorite military moments, my daughter putting on my new rank :-)

Having served in the Air Force and as a volunteer firefighter, I know the challenges heroes face. I understand the long hours, the sacrifices, and the commitment it takes to serve. That’s why helping heroes save money and achieve their dreams of homeownership isn’t just my job—it’s my passion.

Every time I see a family move into their new home, knowing they saved thousands through this program, it’s a reminder of why I do this. It’s my way of saying “thank you” for all you do.

Let’s Talk Numbers

Here’s what we’ve accomplished so far:

  • Nationally: 71,000 heroes served, $141 million saved.

  • Locally: Over 200 heroes served, $1.25 million saved.

These numbers are a testament to the power of this program, but the real reward is knowing that each of those heroes is starting the next chapter of their lives with a little less financial stress and a lot more opportunity.
